In case you missed it, the greatest basketball player of all time turned 50 yesterday. I don’t know about you but that made me feel…old. And if this article is any indication, I’m not the only one having a hard time dealing with it. Wright Thompson did a great job capturing Michael Jordan’s restlessness in his in-depth piece for ESPN. And he has succeeded in making you feel sorry for the guy who has everything. Living long enough to see yourself become a mere mortal…a tough thing to deal with.

Rest of the five from a surprisingly busy weekend:

2. Beasts of the Southern Wild…is a beast of a film. This year’s best movie you haven’t heard of or seen yet is pretty freaking good. Quvenzhane Wallis – at a mere nine-years old – is as amazing as advertised. But Dwight Henry, who plays her father, is equally amazing. If it wasn’t for a jam-packed supporting actor category I’d have to think he would be nominated. The cinematography and direction is great and the soundtrack is sneaky good. It’s out on DVD but hurry – you only have a week until Oscar!

3. Maker’s Mark listened to your tweets. You may have seen one of the things I was thinking about last week was Maker’s Mark decision to reduce their alcohol content so they could expand their distribution. Good business move from a production standpoint. Bad business move from an everything else standpoint. They offended their brand ambassadors and jeopardized the true essence of their brand: quality above all else. Well, they have rebounded quite nicely this week as they announced they will not be making that reduction after all. They took what was a certain hit to the brand and turned it into a huge positive, stating that they made the decision based on their fans’ feedback, specifically in twitter and facebook (power of social media!). Good move Maker’s Mark – way to hear…AND listen…to your base!

4. Brands that won Valentine’s Day. We don’t need to declare winners and losers for everything do we? Ok, so maybe we do…this recap from Social Fresh on brands who did a nice job of wishing consumers a Happy Valentine’s Day is worth a quick look. Some familiar faces on here, one of which is of course OREO. O-R-E-O seems to be on every ‘winners’ list these days. Can’t wait to see what they do at the Oscars next week!

5. You may be cultured…but are you digitally cultured? This is a great quiz from Digiday. It doesn’t have the most hard hitting questions but it gives you a quick feel if you’re able to hold your own at the next social media mixer. For the record, I got a 56% – looks like I’m not as cultured as I thought!
