Alright, it’s confession time: I am a huge fan of quotes. Quotes that motivate and inspire, quotes that make me laugh, quotes that I’ve seen everywhere and heard a million times, but I still find myself drawn to them anyway.
A good, memorable quote has a way of clarifying an idea in a particularly enlightening way, and that’s something that we marketers try to accomplish on a daily basis. Quotes are everywhere, adding color to written pieces and providing insight. There’s a lot we can learn from quotes that have been passed down over the years, that have survived generations. Because I believe that a truly great quote requires the reader to pause and think about the meaning behind a single sentence—and to reflect on personal thoughts. Quotes can get us through challenges big and small, motivate us to achieve goals and inspire us to be better people. Heck, an inspirational quote can even help you conquer a crazy work day.
Ok, come on… don’t lie. You love them, too. I’m sure there’s a Pinterest quote that’s not only your favorite, but that you’ve memorized by heart. The kind of quote that picks you up, pulls you together and really makes you think about how awesome life really is. You know the one I’m talking about. You might even have it pinned up on your bulletin board at work (or maybe that’s just me?). Editor’s Note: It’s not just you, Nicole. -JF
In the spirit of sharing, here are a few of my favorite quotes:
“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” – Maya Angelou
“The struggle you’re in today is developing the strength you need for tomorrow.” – Robert Tew
“We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong—the amount of work is the same.” – Carlos Castaneda
“Two things define you: your patience when you have nothing and your attitude when you have everything.” -Unknown
And, last but not least… a little wisdom from the good ol’ boys over at SoA:
There’s an old saying, that which doesn’t kill you makes you stronger—I don’t believe that. I think the things that try to kill you make you angry and sad. Strength comes from the good things—your family, your friends, the satisfaction of hard work. Those are the things that will keep you whole. Those are the things to hold onto when you’re broken. – Jax Teller, Sons of Anarchy
So tell me—what is it that motivates you? Whether it’s surfing through a book of quotes, or just simply setting life goals, I’d love to hear about it. And, if you’ve got a favorite quote to share, please do in the comments!
