Before I started interning at AKHIA, I had worked seven years at a factory where it was the daily routine of clocking in and working by yourself, doing as you’re told without question. The restrictions I grew used to, but when I graduated college, I wanted out of the mundane and into my field of study: graphic design. It was truly a breath of fresh air to start interning at AKHIA. I love being busy and constantly working on multiple projects, and AKHIA assured me that I’d be doing just that. What I didn’t know, was how much I would love and grow from working with a team.
From the moment I took my tour of the agency, I realized the importance of teamwork and how much each employee relies on one another. Everyone is working together toward a main goal: ensuring the client is happy and is handed a perfect end product. At the factory, rarely would I work on something with someone else. It was always about just getting the job done and completing it as soon as possible so you could begin your next task. Here at AKHIA, it’s the opposite. Although we pride ourselves on producing quick, quality work, everyone from account service to creative to proofing works together to create projects of which our clients are truly proud.
Working together was an eye opener but the “work hard, play hard” strategy is really what makes AKHIA so special. Being in a fun environment with such great people really makes the working environment feel like home. At the factory, I would always dread waking up early to go do the same thing in the same loud and dingy environment. Here, every day is different. You never know what project is going to be waiting for your expertise in the morning. From logo design to infographics to white papers, you just never know what is around the corner.
“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that don’t work.” ~Thomas Edison
In comparison to agency life, if I ever felt I didn’t do my best work on a project, everyone was there to lend a helping hand. No matter how you feel about your attempt, everyone is there for you. When I felt I was in need of direction, I was not afraid to ask anyone. Everyone always had great feedback and positive attitudes. My questions were used as constructive information to push me and my work to the next level.
Agency life is like being a part of a large family. Everyone is always there for each other, helping along the way. Being in this large family really makes work fun and interesting; it is why I love my job.
