It is amazing how fast four months can pass by in the blink of an eye. My spring semester interning on the Account Services team at AKHIA has come to a close. Soon, I will be graduating from Baldwin Wallace University and my college career will come to an end.

As I look back on the time I spent at AKHIA, I know I will miss the one-of-a-kind people who made the experience worthwhile. I will also take away important lessons I learned while working in an agency setting.

  1. Take the time to learn from those around you. AKHIA makes a point to bring the company together once a week to share the creative happenings from around the office. It opened my eyes to the importance of observing what is going on around me. It is easy to get wrapped up in the projects I am working on, but taking the time to be curious pays off in the end.
  2. Have someone to look up to. In my first week at AKHIA, I was assigned a mentor to go to for support. During my internship I have gotten to know my mentor on a personal level. She even put in time after hours to help me get through a school assignment! Having a support system is key to professional growth. I am glad I had the opportunity to intern for a company who believes in the power of mentoring.
  3. Take a moment to celebrate success. In the midst of hard work, it can be hard to take a moment to celebrate how far you have come. AKHIA’s culture focuses on taking the time to acknowledge success. I have witnessed firsthand the impact celebration has on the morale of employees. After I leave AKHIA, I will make it a point to stop and reflect upon my personal successes.

I’ve learned a lot during my time at AKHIA, and I won’t forget the people that made my last semester in college memorable. As I move on to the next exciting chapter in my life, I will never forget my experience which set the stage for my career in public relations.
