I have always been told networking is key in the public relations industry. One of my favorite places to network is on social media because of the endless opportunities it provides. In college, I heard many times that it’s important to post content about the industry you’re interested in working in. (It’s the 21st century version of “dress for the job you want.”) This is because it shows potential employers you’re knowledgeable about the latest trends, and it makes you a more desirable candidate.
With the wealth of information online about the latest in technology, social media and marketing, I wanted to share some Twitter accounts I follow to stay up-to-date:
1. @PRDaily. I’ve been following this publication (and even receive email updates) for a few years. It was one of the first industry-related accounts I found…and for good reason! It covers everything from public relations to social media to marketing. My favorite thing about PR Daily is it posts information geared towards everyone from college students to interns to high-level executives, including insightful case studies.
2. @CMIContent. I hadn’t heard much about Content Marketing Institute (CMI) until interning at AKHIA, after members of the team attended Content Marketing World held right here in Northeast Ohio! CMI provides many informational resources including best practices, advice from experts and more. There are weekly Twitter chats, advancements in the content marketing industry are shared and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
3. @InTheCLE. While this account doesn’t deal directly with the public relations or marketing industries, it’s worth a look. This account, dubbed “Cleveland’s citizen voice account,” has a new Clevelander tweet from it each week to share their love for the city. AKHIA’s own Amanda Vasil and Lukas Treu have both been featured tweeters recently. I feel this account is a great networking tool for aspiring Cleveland professionals, and it’s a great handle for students to engage with. Aspiring professionals should show some personality online, too!
4. @Marketingland. This handle focuses specifically on the digital marketing industry. I love how articles are explained in a simple manner for easy comprehension across all levels of knowledge. (Some updates are directly about a social channel you’re likely already on. Thus, following this account will directly benefit you!)
