I don’t know about you but when I was little, and I asked my mom if I could go over to my friend’s house she would always want to know the plan. But I was only 12, so I mean, I never had the plan. I just wanted to hang out and play video games with my friends. But that wasn’t enough for her. My mom is the type that always has a plan, for everything. But, she always needed to know the details. She would have the same questions: Will their parents be home? Who else will be there? How long will you be there? What will you be doing? Will I need to pick you up? – you know that sort of stuff.

What is a plan though? A plan is an intention or decision about what you are going to do.

One big thing that I have learned as I’ve gotten older, planning is a good thing. Today, I have a plan for most everything I do. I plan social activities with my friends, down to the last detail – those never seem to go as planned. I plan my workouts and what I want to accomplish while at the gym – those sometimes go as planned. I plan the dinners I am going to make throughout the week – those always go as planned, I don’t mess around when it comes to my food. But, what I am getting at here is that you must have a plan.

Planning is something that seems second nature to some people, but others are more spontaneous. Being spontaneous in life can be fun, but planning is what really helps you to achieve your goals in a timely manner.

In life and in a business sense, goals really drive your planning. A plan is the path that guides you to your goal. Most companies plan to be successful in reaching their goals. Plans help to get people on the same page and hold people accountable, because, if a plan is set up the correct way, there are ways to measure success throughout. If something is off, the beautiful thing is that a plan can change. Leaving room for flexibility in your plan will lead to more ways to achieve the overall goal. Another big thing that goes into planning is a time frame. They are only in effect for certain periods of time and time really does shape the plan. If your goal is to get 50 orders by next week, then you have 7 days to achieve that. This could mean that you want to get at least 7 orders a day and 8 one day, or 10 a day for 5 days, or any other combination. There are many ways to achieve a goal, but a way to keep yourself on track is to make a plan, and stick to the plan.

Planning can be a daunting task, but putting in the work to properly plan a way to achieve your goals will lead to success in life and in business.

How can you better plan to reach your goals?
